Top 5 Things to Watch
Sunday, November 8, 2026 4:50AM CST

OMAHA (DTN) -- Here are the Top 5 things the DTN Newsroom is tracking for the week of Nov. 8. Watch for coverage of these and other topics throughout the week on our subscription platforms as well as on www.DTNPF.com.

Note that all report release times are Central Standard Time unless otherwise noted.

1. WASDE on Tuesday: There will be more eyes than normal on the November crop production numbers after USDA's data issues with corn numbers in September, which led to higher-than-anticipated yield and production numbers in October. Will November stay in trend with October, or be revised down as many farmers think it should be? Find out at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, when the DTN reporting team will post our WASDE flash story with the latest yield, acreage and grain stocks numbers. That will be followed by updates and analysis throughout the morning. At 12:30 p.m., we'll start the Rhett's Reaction webinar, featuring analysis by DTN Lead Analyst Rhett Montgomery. To sign up, go here: https://www.dtn.com/….

2. Export News: An 80-million-bushel corn sale to Mexico buoyed corn futures for a bit, though overall prices are feeling the weight of typical harvest-time lows. With the 2026 crop rapidly being finished up, we'll be watching for any signs of increased demand and transportation issues that might give traders a new shiny object to look at.

3. Weather: In the Central and Southern Plains, a final few showers move through Texas over the weekend, leaving the area drier and warmer through the week. In the Midwest, the rains of this past week are pushing out, and any following showers should be light. That will help with remaining harvest acres. In the Delta, the overall El Nino pattern unfolding should be beneficial to the region over the next several months, but things will remain drier this week.

4. South American Weather: Monsoon season showers across central Brazil have been less, both in coverage area and intensity. While there has been heavy rainfall across the south, central and northern cropping areas have missed out and soil moisture is on the low side for early soybean growth. Forecasts continue to call for rain for the first half of November, with several fronts over the next 10 days. That could be enough to keep soil conditions from becoming too dry, but soil moisture sits on the edge of dryness. In Argentina, soybean planting will increase throughout November, helped by frequent frontal passages. Whether those rains develop and continue will have strong bearing on early crop growth.

5. Reports Due This Week: Monday at 9 a.m., Monthly Wholesale Trade. At 10 a.m., Grain Inspections and Survey of Consumer Expectations. At 3 p.m., Crop Progress, including DTN analysis. Tuesday, at 7:30 a.m., Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Core CPI. At 11 a.m., Cotton Ginnings and USDA Crop Production and November WASDE report. Wednesday is the Veteran's Day holiday and Canada celebrates Remembrance Day. CME grain markets will be open. Thursday, at 7:30 a.m., Grain Export Sales and Weekly Jobless Claims. At 9 a.m., Existing Home Sales, followed at 10 a.m. by EIA's weekly petroleum report including ethanol data. At 10:30 a.m., Weekly Economic Index. At 1 p.m., Monthly Treasury Balance. At 2 p.m., Broiler Hatchery and Slaughter Weekly. Friday at 7:30 a.m., Producer Price Index (PPI). At 2 p.m., Turkey Hatchery. The CFTC's Commitments of Traders report is delayed until Monday, Nov. 16, due to the federal holiday.
